Crop Mask Title:
Fifty percent probability crop masks derived from 2011-2016 NASS Crop Data Layers (CDL)
Coverage:
Continental United States (CONUS)
Spatial resolution:
30-meters
Satellite:
Landsat
Year:
2011-2016
Version:
Crops having 50 percent probability of being planted were derived from 2011-2016 NASS CDL’s. Each crop type defines the version.
Organization:
Crops having 50 percent probability of being planted were derived by Dave Johnson from USDA-NASS and by processing NASS CDL’s from 2011-2016.
The NASS Cropland Data Layers (CDL) from 2008-2018 were created by the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Research and Development Division, Geospatial Information Branch, Spatial Analysis Research Section.

Resource Abstract:
Crop masks having 50 percent probability of being planted were derived from NASS Cropland Data Layers (CDL) from 2011 through 2016. The crop masks having 50 percent probability of being planted and include the following crops: all crops, alfalfa, barley, canola, corn, cotton, grass, millet, peanuts, rice, sorghum, soybeans, spring wheat, sunflowers, and winter wheat.
Resource Classification Categories:
The 15 different crop types include the following: all crops, alfalfa, barley, canola, corn, cotton, grass, millet, peanuts, rice, sorghum, soybeans, spring wheat, sunflowers, and winter wheat.
Reprocessing for MODIS-GLAM (250-meter) applications:
CDL crop masks from 2011-2016 were derived and resampled to 250-meters spatial resolution for cropland data drilling on MODIS-GLAM. The reprocessing and resampling steps follow:
