Resource Abstract:
The dataset provides global maps describing the land surface into 22 classes, which have been defined using the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s (UN FAO) Land Cover Classification System (LCCS).

Resource Classification Categories:
Value Category
10 Cropland, Rainfed
11 Cropland, Rainfed, Herbaceous Cover
12 Cropland, Rainfed, Tree/Shrub
20 Cropland, Irrigated
30 Mosaic Cropland (>50%) / Natural Vegetation (<50%)
40 Mosaic Cropland (<50%) / Natural Vegetation (>50%)

Reprocessing for MODIS-GLAM (250-meter) applications:

  1. Values 10, 11, 12, and 30 were remapped to value 1 for “Rainfed Cropland”. Value 40 was ignored, as it is <50% cropland per pixel.
  2. Value 20 was remapped to value 2 for “Irrigated Cropland”.
  3. The rainfed and irrigated cropland data was resampled by nearest neighbor technique from native 300m to 250m cell size for use on USDA/NASA GLAM.
